Burroughs & Chapin Company has been a closely held, family-owned company for more than 100 years, and is among the most experienced, respected and diversified development firms in the Southeast. Headquartered in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the company has weathered numerous economic cycles over the years and is renowned for its ability to recognize new directions in business, its strong focus on strategic planning, and its ability to remain flexible in order to seize upon new opportunities as they arise.

Burroughs & Chapin is one of South Carolina’s largest private landowners and a leading source of exceptional residential and resort development, commercial development and leasing, property management, and sports, entertainment and recreation offerings. Among our many award-winning projects is Grande Dunes, a master-planned resort and residential golf community in Myrtle Beach encompassing 2200 acres that stretch from the ocean to west of the Intracoastal Waterway. Broadway at the Beach is a 350-acre festival shopping, entertainment and dining complex overlooking a 22-acre lake that attracts more than 14 million visitors annually to the heart of Myrtle Beach. And the spectacular Coastal Grand Mall in Myrtle Beach, a joint venture with CBL & Associates Properties, Inc., is among the largest in South Carolina with more than one million square feet of retail space.

Travel the streets of Myrtle Beach today and youʼll encounter the many quiet contributions of Burroughs & Chapin Company and its founding families that make it an exceptional family-friendly community and one of the most popular vacation destinations in America.

Burroughs & Chapin Company donated land at virtually every oceanfront street ending in Myrtle Beach so that the entire community and its visitors could enjoy easy access to the beach and public parking. Most of the city's roads, including historic Kings Highway and U.S. Highway 17 Bypass, span acreage contributed by the company. The majority of churches and several schools and parks are also located on land donated by the company.

Prior to his death, Simeon B. Chapin established The Chapin Foundation. About 15 percent of all Burroughs & Chapin's shareholder dividend income is channeled through this foundation to numerous civic, religious and charitable causes, such as the YMCA, Chapin Park and the ongoing funding of Chapin Memorial Library.

Burroughs & Chapin Company donated 320 acres of prime oceanfront property for the creation of Myrtle Beach State Park, half of the land for the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, the ocean view land on which the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is located, and more than $10 million in land for the communityʼs first professional baseball stadium.

Burroughs & Chapin continues to make major monetary and other contributions to area colleges, technical schools, health care initiatives, educational programs, chambers of commerce and other community endeavors that promise to advance opportunity for the community and those who live, work and recreate in it.
