Ripley's Aquarium is a $36 million, state-of-the-art attraction housing sharks, piranhas, moray eels, and seahorses to name just a few. The most popular exhibit is a 310-foot underwater tunnel that allows visitors the incredible experience of seeing sharks swim right over them. A beautiful display called Rainbow Rock features jewel-colored fish native to the Pacific Ocean. Two exhibits encourage visitors to experience marine life firsthand by picking up horseshoe crabs in a special observation display, and by presenting a tropical lagoon where adults and children alike touch the graceful rays swimming by. The complex won the South Carolina Governor's Cup in 1999 when the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreations and Tourism deemed it the state's best travel destination.
